National X-C Guelph

On Saturday Nov 28 Speed River hosted the Canadian Cross Country Champions, the third straight year we had the honor of putting on the meet. Coach DST and the gang did a fantastic job once again, and even managed to ward off the snow (finally) which gave everyone the chance to rip-it on a great course.

My prep for the marathon has be coming along very well. Since the Zoo Run in mid October I've upped the mileage significantly cracking 200k for three straight weeks before bringing it down to 187k two weeks out, and 153k last week. The drop did help me feel fresh heading into race weekend, enough to lead the first lap anyhow, wasn't my original plan heading in. Once up there I tried to relax and keep a solid pace, did that except for the third lap (of four) which was a bit slow. I was trying to save a bit for the last one to make sure I had something in reserve if 'The Champ' caught up and tried a finish like he unleashed at CIS in Kingston... nice run Matty:)

In the end, running nationals for me was about having some fun in the middle of a big buildup for Houston, mission accomplished! Great job Speed River athletes!

Torch Run

I was back in Antigonish earlier this week partaking in the 2010 Olympic Torch relay, had the special honor of being the last torch barer! I ran 400m on St.FX campus and got to light the cauldron in front of a huge crowd! The part I enjoyed most was the last 50m when the security guys peeled off and suddenly there were hundreds of cheering people an arms lengths away on either side me.
