Wind, Rain and Hills

Wind, rain and hills- that pretty much sums up this years CIS Cross Country Chapionships! Last weekend was the CIS cross country championships in Laval, Quebec. Emily and I went to cheer on our alma matter StFX and the reining champs, the Guelph Gryphons. Success shone on both squads with Guelph retaining both titles. The Gryphon men dominated finishing 1,2,4,6,15, totaling a scant 28 points. The X-Men shocked most, grabbing a histioric silver! This year was only the second AUS title for the X-Men which makes their second place finish at CIS that much more impressive, great job lads! The X- Women, last years CIS bronze medalists, are in rebuilding years but had several positive individual results including Second Team All Canadian, Gina Stewert's 13th place finish.

Thursday I leave for Japan to participate in the Chiba, Ekiden Relays. Countries entries are up on the website http://homepage2.nifty.com/chibariku/index.html I believe our team will be strong. Everyone has been racing well this fall and so long as we can handle the jet leg we have a shot at beating a lot of good teams.

10k on the roads

It's been a couple weeks since I raced in Ottawa at the 10k road champs, too late for an update? .. I finished 3rd in 29:28, a good effort for this time of year. Simon and Derek ran strong races pulling away from me before halfway. I tried closing the gap on Derek at 7k seeing that he fell off the shoulder of Simon. I moved well on him but he kept up the pace and finished strong. We had six from the club race, T.Milne 7th, S.Koziarski 8th,T.Konoval 14th PB 31:12, M.Paquette 23rd PB 32:13, and J.Corbit 26th

Next up for me in an Ekiden relay race in Chiba, Japan, Nov 24. An Ekiden relay is marathon distance broken into six legs. This year the race is again mixed gender, three men - three women, alternating legs. The men's legs are 5k,10k,10k, women's 5k,5k and 7.2k. I'm on Team Canada and we'll compete against ~15 other countries.
